Fire Safety Certificate
There is much confusion and erroneous information circulating on this subject mainly because the law governing rental licenses in Portugal only stipulates the provision of fire extinguishers and blankets (for properties with less than 50 beds). A separate law came into force in January 2009 governing fire safety in public buildings which stipulates that properties offering temporary accommodation are classified in the same group as hotels, bars and restaurants and are required to offer the same level of fire safety. The minimum equipment required by law is a fire alarm comprising button, siren, a control panel and signage (in addition to fire extinguishers and blankets).
If your local council is requesting a fire safety certificate to support your rental license application, then you will be expected to install a fire alarm.
