What happens if I rent without a license?
The government body in Portugal, Autoridade de Segurança Alimentar e Económica (A.S.A.E.) are responsible for enforcing this legislation and will issue fines from €2,500 to individuals and from €25,000 to companies who are found to be renting a property without the Alojamento Local rental
license. Their goal is for all rental properties to be licensed by 2012 so we can expect their
inspections to increase in order to meet this target.
